A study conducted by Dove states that only 2% of women in the world consider themselves to be beautiful.
In a world filled with so many messages about what women and girls should look like, it has become increasingly harder for many to define beauty. The DOVE beauty campaign reported that “girls who watch TV commercials featuring underweight models lose self-confidence and become more dissatisfied with their own bodies. It is unfortunate that we all seem to have fallen victim of the media’s perception of beauty.
Being Yourself is Beautiful
If several people were asked to ponder their ideas and notions of beauty, it is certain that there would be variations and differences of opinion as every eye has been cultured to see beauty from his or her vantage point. Subsequently, act of kindness such as volunteering to uplift one’s community, lending a helping hand to those in need or even making a loved one smile would all be classified as beautiful no matter who you ask. Although not glorified and saturated in the media, we can resolve that true beauty resides in the heart of those that make the world a better place to live
On a quest towards personal empowerment, we must learn to love the skin that we are in. After all no one can be you better than you! Paint the world pretty!
